AI Science
Rationality is a funny thing. When we think we are the most rational, we usually are irrational. Our tiny human intellect cannot sometime comprehend when and where we are going wrong. I would like to argue that rationality is also....a human thing. Our ideas are only.....as big as us.
Wikipedia defines rationality as " the quality or state of being rational – that is, being based on or agreeable to reason". But...what is reason? Is it not something created by humans, to comprehend the cosmos? I would imagine someone like Spock from the Star Trek universe to have a completely different approach.
Imagine their gods, their culture. Its completely alien to imagine so. Yet, we humans , especially a special branch of humans ( extremist scientists) claim that "everyone can be rational" and everything can be "boiled down" to physics and logic. Yes, it's true that the physics that humans developed works in describing the universe very precisely. But it is still a human thing. The scientific excavations made by man in 500 years has made us think that we "own" science. But in fact, it is not the case. Laws do not require human justification, they work independent of how we think of it .We even do not why the laws are working so perfectly well. Especially maths and physics. There is not one reason, why the universe should behave the way we predict it to behave. Our Sun should be explode at any moment defying all laws of physics, but it won't.
Moon's gravity could grow so strong that earth should ultimately crash into it. But it wont. That's science. It just works. An interesting read would be here which links to a very good article.
Now that we are discovering the new field of AI, I think in the future, there will be a new branch of science called "AI's science" solely containing the discoveries made by "AI researchers". These AI researchers will be Artificial General Intelligence with cognitive powers that surpasses humans in every aspect. I think it will be fundamentally different from how we discover stuff.
Who knows, these things in the future, might figure out the perfect theory for quantum gravity within seconds of being turned on. Might solve the hardest math problem within a day and make unimaginable leaps in intuition that humans could never aspire to reach. It's exciting to think of that. Hope this was some food for thought. Thanks for reading!
